Ever heard of the old adage ‘a little goes a long way’? This cannot be more apt for bathroom decorating. Making an impact in the bathroom goes beyond major items like bathtubs and showers, for small details can play a pivotal role in transforming the overall look of your bathroom without the need for a remodelling project.

Before you get started, think about the overall design you’re trying to achieve. This means that when purchasing the small items for your bathroom, make sure they are all cognizant to the look you’re going for. Be it modern, Victorian, classic, retro, or tropical, ensure neither one of the items you purchase clashes with one another to avoid ruining the end result.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Mirrors have come a long way from merely fulfilling the utilitarian purpose of viewing one’s reflection. They can be the main focal point or the centrepiece of the bathroom, and the overall look can be transformed with the right design selection. And if you have adequate storage space, replace your medicine cabinets with a beautiful mirror instead.

Space is a major consideration when installing mirrors: smaller bathrooms can benefit from square panel mirrors to create the illusion of space. On the other hand, larger bathrooms can accommodate greater flexibility for all types of mirrors.

Tip: Placing a collection of mirrors onto a wall can create an artistic touch to the bathroom. But arrangement sans planning can spoil your best efforts.

If you’ve ever encountered mirrors that aren’t the correct height and require you to bend down or tiptoe, you’ll know how uncomfortable that feels like. It’s best to have full length mirrors for guest bathrooms to accommodate differing heights while three to four feet from the floor would be desirable for children’s bathrooms. It is recommended to place full length mirrors in your private bathroom if there’s a huge height disparity between you and your partner.
