1. Control Clutter
Get rid of items you no longer need or use, file important items in labeled folders or boxes, and return everything to its original place when you’re done with it.

2. Keep Traffic Paths Clear
Go with direct paths to commonly used zones and always leave enough space around each piece of furniture.

3. Create Optimal Lighting And Ventilation
Make sure rooms are always well-ventilated and comfortable to the eyes. This can be achieved by proper window treatments as well as selecting the right lighting and ventilation plan.

4. Maximise Vertical Space
Take advantage of wall height by adding tall bookcases, cabinets or shelves, or by hanging hooks for jackets in the hallway, or pots and pans in the kitchen.

5. Get Multifunctional Furniture
Buy pieces that can be used for more than one purpose. For example, a sofa bed that functions as a seating option by day and a guest bed by night.

6. Add Storage
Organize and minimise your things to create more storage space. Building shelves and racks in between awkward corners for additional storage.

7. Install Durable Countertops
Whether it is for your kitchen countertop or the surface of your tables, choose materials that are scratch-proof, water-proof and long lasting.

8. Choose Functional Decoratives
Instead of buying décor paraphernalia that serve no purpose other than looking pretty and gathering dust, go for decorative boxes, jars or tins that can be also used to store items.

9. Create A Nook
If you don’t have the luxury of a separate office or study, add a desk in a corner of a bedroom or living room. Another good idea is to convert the balcony area into an addition semi-outdoor reading nook.

10. Make Space For Everyone In The Family
A truly functional home is a place meant for everyone. Consider childproofing the living room, creating special storage spaces for your children’s toys and choosing flooring that is safe and comfortable for your aging parents.
